What is a leaf spring?

A leaf spring is a mechanical spring that works on the principle of bending. It is manufactured from spring strip or sheet metal and can take many different shapes: straight, curved, cut-out or with bent ends.

At Hermans Verenfabriek, we manufacture leaf springs using small tooling, press brakes, CNC machines or progressive dies, depending on dimensions, tolerances and target cost.

Thickness: from 0.20 mm to 3.00 mm
Production volumes: prototype, small batch or large series
Finishing: heat treatment available for optimal spring properties

Applications of leaf springs

Automotive and mechanical engineering

Leaf springs are well known in vehicle suspension systems, but they are also widely used in mechanical engineering where spring force, positioning or damping is required.

Precision mechanics

In compact designs, leaf springs often function as elastic hinges or linear guides in precision mechanisms.

Electrical devices and clamping functions

Typical applications include electrical contacts, switches, battery terminals, clamping elements, spotlights and ventilation systems. Leaf springs are also commonly used in coffee machines and printers.

Manufacturing methods and tooling

Our tooling department designs and manufactures tools in-house, allowing fast response times for both prototypes and series production.

We produce both small and large series from spring strip or sheet metal. A single prototype can also be supplied if required.
